What's Going On At WBC?
Teen Camp 2013
by WBC on 07/15/13
So week 2 has come and gone all too quickly again... We had the privilege of having a missions team of over 30 adults from Bethel Christian Center in Blackwood, NJ come and help us in all areas... they took care of the kitchen and maintenance, the counseling and staffing, even the teaching, chapels and activities... they all did an awesome job and we have truly appreciated everyone of them.
We had 88 campers for Teen week, who I believe all had a fantastic time here. They participated in Team time... even when it looked disgusting to try... pictures will follow under Teen Camp under the CAMPS tab.... the activities played this week were definitely interesting to say the least... but the kids loved them and I have heard nothing but great comments about them and for that fact all I have heard is how Teen week was most campers BEST week .. WE LOVE THAT!!
Pastor Heath McCoy came this week as our evangelist and with his props and demonstrations, I'm pretty sure it will be hard to forget those messages. From a Boxing Ring to being a Runner carrying the torch till the finish line...
AND the testimonies! Oh my the testimonies... the campers had the opportunity to take over the service Thursday night with their testimony and we had a good 2 hours of it... and to hear some of the things these preteens are going through and have gone through and have gotten to were they are now... it amazes me and makes one realize that you are not the only one with the bad day today... in fact you are blessed and have things to be thankful for instead...
This weeks Campers of the Year were, Morgana Vick from Charleston, ME and Luke Reardon from Somersworth, NH
The Counselors of the Year were Megan Munro from Clementon, NJ and Christopher Keen from Blackwood.
Support Staff of the Year were Kelly Gonzalez from Philadelphia, PA, and Noah Holmes from Houlton, ME
Kitchen and Maintenance Support Staff were Theresa Nelson from Erial, NJ and Mike Calabrese from PineHill, NJ
Anyhow, onward to CANT GET ENOUGH WEEK!!
Kids Camp 2013
by WBC on 07/09/13
So Whited Bible Camps has opened for the Summer of 2013 and have already gone through week 1!! How is this possible? Kids Camp came and went so fast! BUT it was a great week, despite what the weather bugs/apps on our phones said it was going to be like, we started registration out in the rain and ended up with a pretty HOT week... Registration started slow at first, usually at 1pm everyone is lined up and out the tabernacle entrance waiting for us to start... but instead we were sitting waiting for our pre-registered campers to show up... finally 2pm hit and they started coming in. We ended the day with 60 campers... a little lower than what we have been used to in the past but still manageable and we had the ability to have a more 1 on 1 approach.
This year started differently by way of staffing as well... our long time Activities Directors Gene and Bethany Collins moved out of state and were not going to be with us, so we looked for the first time in a long time for new Activities Director... Well Kids week, we were able to use Renee Watters for Christian Ridge Church in Ellsworth, ME, who usually comes up and helps us for the week. She stepped in and did an excellent job. She had the kids participating in all kinds of different activities, from a game with shaving cream and cheeseballs, to waterballoons, to watermelon scavenger hunts... The Kids also had a blast swimming and paddleboating, learning scripture and competing in Bible Quiz...
Services were to be as expected as only one can expect at Whited Bible Camp. Pastors Bryant and Holly Markie did a fabulous job teaching Gods word in a unique way just for the kids... everyone always enjoys seeing Nellie Knowledge, Professor Brain Cramp and Sir Fix A Lot and of course the favorite - MELVIN. And who doesn't like the chance to get up and out of their seat so they can dance to "Superhero" and "Happy Day" and the others that I need to find the titles to. :)
Campers of the Year for Kids week were : Acadia Reece from Corinth, ME and Cameron Sturgis from Auburn, Me. They both received a $25 gift card to Walmart and a FREE week at WBC 2014.
Our Staff and Counselors of the Year for Kids week were, Victoria Holmes of Houlton, Me, Austen Young of Stafford Springs, Keisha Wilson from Corinth, Me and Andrew McLaughlin of Perham, Me.
All in All it was an awesome week, that I'm sure many of us were disappointed to see end all too soon, but am also sure there are many little kids already counting down the days till Kids Week 2014!!!!
Improvements are Happening.
by WBC on 04/18/13
So if you follow us on Facebook you all ready know that we have been doing some improvements around the campground lately... we started last summer with some regulation changes that we had to make to our pool, including depth markers, a water filtration thing (i dont know whats it called, but it changes the water in the pool at a great rate)... We dug a new well that gave us so much water that it couldnt contain itself and overflowed... We built 2 new well houses, one for the new well and one out by the road to replace the old well house... they are in the process of getting their siding put on. We put a new deck on the office after the PA Missions team had come and put new sheetrock in the office... Oh the Summer before last we finally got the Motel finished upstairs!! and we redid the girls ABC Dorm bathroom ... and redid the Girls DE Dorms.
Well this year we have decided to build a residence for the Youth Director so he would be able to stay on grounds and maintain it all year long. We plan on calling this The Gideon House, to go along with the Gideon Initiative that Family Camp has started (for more info go to the CAMPS page and click on Family Camp) ...
We also have decided to do a complete overhaul of the the Girls FGHI bathrooms - which are located upstairs over the rec hall. New walls, new sinks, new toilets, new showers -- more showers, new floors and ceilings... its looking great... you can head to our facebook page to see the progress. ... And I know it looks like the girls are getting all of our attention but don't worry boys... Your bathrooms are NEXT!
Winter Summit 2013
by WBC on 04/18/13
How it has been 2 months since Winter Summit and I still had not posted anything about it on the blog is crazy. Sorry for my lack of consistancy lately. Life though not an excuse does seem to get in the way some times and my life got crazy after Summit and is just now settling back into normalacy..
WINTER SUMMIT... if you missed it you missed out! We had a pretty great turn out, though we always would love to see more campers, we had a pretty managable group of campers this year.
This year was unique, it started with that the mountain did not set up their tubing hill, then the Presque Isle forum wasnt going to be available for us to use for skating, due to a hockey game... then just a few days before Summit was about to start... the Mountain wasn't going to be available for us either!! We had campers coming, planning on going and doing one of those 3 things and nothing was going to be available, so what did we do.... We hung out at camp! Actually we had this great opportunity to have SNOWSLEDS... for those of you use to go to Retreat back in the oh say 70's this should bring back memories... SO yeah Snowsleds, we havent had snowsleds on the grounds in a very very long time.. and the campers seemed to love it! We also were able to borrow Snowshoes for some hiking around camp fun. Snowmen were built, items were scavenged for, air hockey tournement was on and Ping Pong games were won.
The services were awesome as only WBC campers can expect, Ted Shuttlesworth Jr. challenged the campers. The campers were encouraged one night that 'Friends dont let friends die and go to hell"
Hopefully all of the campers left changed by God in the way that he intended each of them to.
